What is Nature Worship?

Nature worship is the oldest tradition in the world. Every culture around the world had it’s own spiritual understanding of our innate connection with nature before man-made religions. Religion itself is a conceptual construct. Nature is beyond dispute. Nature is life itself.

A conceptual construct is something that exists because of our collective agreement in it. Money, religion, identity, society, culture… these things exist because of our collective belief in them. Nature is indisputable. Everything that you can see with your eyes is either nature or nature derived.

Worship of nature is the acknowledgment of the sacredness of all life. It is the original spirituality and the spirituality of all plants and animals. Within us lies a deep instinctual reverence and awe of nature. Each human feels a deep and special relationship with life itself through nature. We are of the earth. That is why the sunshine and breeze can heal us. Soft warm ground beneath our feet brings comfort. The sounds of the ocean waves bring peace…

We are nature. Nature is in all things and is all things. Nature is life. Life itself created nature and is created by nature. Nature works in perfect balance and harmony. Nature moves in cycles of life and death, growth and decay. Life seeks only to thrive. Thriving cannot occur in an imbalance. Nature is eternal. It knows how to create balance within itself.

Nothing can concur nature. It is everything that exists. Nature is life eternal.

The worship of nature comes from inside of you. Anyone can worship nature anywhere at anytime. Many people who worship nature find that observing the natural order of things brings them great wisdom and insight for their lives.

The ancient pagans of all different cultures around the world had different ways of worshipping nature. Many of our ancestors traditions have been buried and lost. Indigenous traditions that still exist give us the best view of how people in the past have shared wisdom of our divine place in the order of nature.

Listening to the quiet wisdom of the nature within yourself will show you truth. Nature is the earth herself. Everything that we have made upon her will one day be reclaimed by her. We are a part of nature just as we are a part of life.

Nature worship sets itself apart from religion through its radical acceptance of all things. By natural law, death feeds life and all things work in collaboration for the betterment of all. In religion there are winners and losers. In nature there is only life working in harmony with itself. In nature there is no judgment. Everything just is. This does not mean there is no order to things. Natural order is divine order.

Nature worship can also include worship of the elements of nature. Different cultures around the world have defined and worshiped the elements in different ways. Celtic pagan culture worships the five elements of water, air, fire, earth, and spirit. These five elements can be found in the representation of the pentagram.

In Chinese culture, we find the five elements of wood, fire, earth, water, and metal. These elements are worshiped and honored through practices such as fung shui. This and other practices honor nature through the acknowledgment of the movement of energy. All life is energy. The flow of energy through nature is sometimes called spirit. Many traditions worship The Great Spirit.

The Great Spirit is another name for the force of life that flows through all things. Intuition comes from our connection to the energy or spirit of all things. The will of life itself (nature) is to thrive and support all things to thrive in harmony. This force is the same force that lives inside of you. It is life itself guiding you to be the greatest contribution you can be to the world.

Honoring and fostering your connection with nature inside you and around you is nature worship.
